Macey Bullard, a second grade teacher at Riverside Elementary School, was raised by educators, and she appears well on her way to extending the family’s legacy. Bullard, in just her third year as a teacher, was voted Rockin’ Jump’s Teacher of the Month in April, and we want to introduce you to this month’s honoree via a Q&A.
How long have you been a teacher?
I have been teaching for three years. I graduated from Coastal in December of 2017 and immediately got hired on at Riverside (where she interned).
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you?
I became a teacher because I watched the impact my parents made as educators and I wanted to do the same. It is a long, hard, tiring job but my students are my motivation. They deserve the best. I want to make them successful in the future, so I am motivated by making sure they have everything they need to be successful in future grade levels and in life.
What was your reaction to winning the award?
I was so excited and honored! It was so nice to feel appreciated and thought of!! I also was even more excited to know my kids were so excited.
What was the reaction of your class?
My kids went crazy! They were so proud of themselves, of me, and our class. They also were of course excited about getting free time to jump!
Have you been to Rockin Jump before? If so, what was your experience like?
I have never been, but I will soon!
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher?
The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships that I build with my students. Getting to know each of them and show each of them that I love them more than anything, is what makes me happy. Outside of my responsibilities of teaching them curriculum and standards and all, I am just happy that I am able to offer them a safe place to come every day and be themself. A safe place to grow, make mistakes, learn, and be whoever they want to be.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests?
I love to spend time with my family and dog. We love to be outdoors and go fishing, go to the beach, go four wheeling. Anything that gets us out the house!
