Jessica DaSilva is the latest winner of Rockin’ Jump’s Teacher of the Month Award, and it’s not difficult to see what motivated the second graders she teaches at Lakewood Elementary to nominate her.
Now in her 13th year as a teacher – the last 12 in Horry County – DaSilva, a mother of three, has a passion for education and the kids in her class.
“My students motivate me to come to school each day,” DaSilva said. “Their smiling faces are worth the early mornings. They truly work hard each day and make teaching so fun! What I find the most rewarding is watching my children persevere through hard tasks and grow as learners. I know that I am teaching them skills they will need to be successful in life.”
Motivated by the impact teachers had on her as a child, DaSilva knew from an early age she wanted to work in education.
“Ever since I was little I always had an interest in teaching,” she said. “I had some amazing teachers growing up who I still remember to this day. I enjoy working with little kids and knew this is the profession that would be the most rewarding.”
Based on the reaction of her class, DaSilva’s students will remember her and the jump-time they receive as part of the Teacher of the Month Award.
“My class was so excited as they love Rockin Jump,” she said. “They were hoping I took them for a field trip or after school to claim their prize.”
For DaSilva, who lives an active lifestyle out of the classroom – kayaking and bike riding with her family – being named Teacher of the Month is gratifying but it’s the sense of accomplishment in seeing her students grow that motivates her.
That’s why she is Rockin’ Jump’s Teacher of the Month.
